At the center of my practice is the individual. I believe that the driving force of all mental health recovery, self-improvement, and self-discovery is the individual pushing themselves forward to reach their goals. This is why I engage in a person-centered practice of counseling and therapy. I believe that counseling and therapy are most effective when a counselor allows the client to lead the session with the counselor providing guidance and helping the client to gain a deeper understanding of themselves, their emotions, and the way that they think. This creates a path to achieving one's goals.
I grew up in North Texas and I have spent the majority of my life here. Growing up in a religious family I went through all my grade school education, physical growth, and spiritual growth as a child and adolescent in the area. For college, I went out of state and received my bachelor's degree in behavioral science at Utah Valley University. There I got a base of psychological knowledge. After that, I went on a short mission trip to Mexico where I grew more spiritually as well as learned important lessons about trauma and grief. Eventually, I received my master's degree from Letourneau University in East Texas. Letourneau is a school that teaches spiritual and religious counseling as well as science and evidence-based counseling. My history growing up in a culturally diverse area and traveling has given me cultural awareness and competency. My spiritual and religious upbringing has given me the special opportunity to understand and work with those who are spiritually strong, those who are struggling spiritually, and individuals who may still be figuring it out. I am knowledgeable and practiced in several forms of therapy and work with a wide variety of populations.
I have up-to-date knowledge and training regarding person-centered therapy techniques as well as techniques utilizing other theories and therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy and attachment theory. These techniques and theories are evidence-based and have been shown to have positive outcomes when utilized in therapy and counseling settings.
This provides more details regarding some specialties listed on the home page (not all specialties are listed here).
Spiritual/Religious Issues
I have specialized training in religious and spiritual counseling as well as traditional secular counseling utilizing a scientific perspective. This allows me to be particularly capable of assisting those with spiritual struggles or issues.
Sexuality and Gender
I have extensive experience with both adolescents and adults struggling to understand sexuality and gender. Issues of this kind can cause great distress. In some cases, it may be linked with other aspects of life. Guidance from a nonjudgmental and accepting therapist is key.
Adolescents
Adolescence is a difficult stage of life for many. It includes significant mental, social, and physical changes that can cause significant distress for young people. Creating a trusting and understanding therapeutic relationship is particularly important during this stage of life. With my significant experience with adolescents, I provide just that.
As a counselor with a particular interest in the intersection of faith/spirituality with sexuality and gender, I am seeking individuals who may be interested in being part of a supportive therapy group for those who are struggling to reconcile their faith and sexuality/gender. If you are interested in being a part of a group of this nature, please utilize the contact section of this website to contact me.
